Reviewing the Grammy Awards!!!

The Grammy Awards....the Oscars of the music industry. Here is my take on 6 awards given this year.

Album of the Year

Herbie Hancock became the first Jazz artist to win this grand prize in 43 years. A true legend, no doubt...a multiple Grammy winner, an Oscar awardee, his win was a big surprise.......I mean, people backed Amy Winehouse and Kanye West (and some even favored the Foo Fighters). But this is a great album. Not the best album this year , yet a good one. I personally wanted Kanye to win. His album had everything- collaborations, rap solos, deep lyrics and a cool artwork! However, some great albums weren't nominated- Daughtry, High School Musical 2 etc

winner- River:The Joni Letters by Herbie Hancock
should've won- Graduation by Kanye West

Record of the Year

Amy Winehouse has been in the news for both- good and bad - this year. The success of her album or her battle against drugs. She has a voice. Her songs reminded me of the mid 70s. 'Rehab' won this big prize and what a win this was. With great beats, wonderful lyrics and great chart success, this was a deserving win.

Best Rock Album

So, the Foo Fighters won for the third time. This band, led by former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl is a winner. He isn't Cobain, but he is Dave Grohl. Hoewever, this is not the best of the band. I felt they were too monotonous . Dave Grohl's echoes made me crave for silence, patience ad grace. I would've opted for Daughtry. This guy proved that you don't need to be an 'American Idol' winner to be a bestselling artist.

winner- 'Echoes,Silence, Patience and Grace' by Foo Fighters
should've won- 'Daughtry' by Daughtry

Best Pop Vocal Album

No trouble there. Amy Winehouse all the way

Best Rap Album

No trouble here too. Kanye West leeds the front

Best New Artist

Amy Winehouse had to win this one!!! But Daughtry wasn't nominated. That's a shame

Next Week, my take on the Oscars. Don't miss it!!!
